Spring 2022 to Result in Resuming of General Express Entry Draws

Canada Update: Spring 2022 to Result in Resuming of General Express Entry Draws

The is a rise in speculations regarding the resuming of the general Express Entry (EE) draw. But the immigration minister Honourable Sean Fraser has recently hinted that Canada will resume the draws in the coming spring.

So, Spring 2022 to result in resuming of general Express Entry draws.

Besides, the last all program draw was held on Dec 23, 2020, where IRCC issued 5000 ITAs. Also, the CRS score was set at 468.

Thus, everyone has been curiously waiting for the resuming of general draws. However, in the absence of the same, IRCC was conducting CEC draws. And later on, switched to the EE PNP draw patterns. As a result, not restricting or pausing the selection of applicants from the EE pool.

Since Sep 15, 2021, we have seen a shift to consistent EE PNP draws. And up till now, 13,274 applicants have received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

Who can qualify in an EE general all program draw?

Now we know, spring 2022 to result in resuming of general Express Entry draws. But who will qualify in these upcoming draws?

To qualify for an all-program Express Entry (EE) System draw, you must:

  • Have an active EE profile.
  • Applied to 1 of the EE sub-streams such as:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
    • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Also, meet Human Capital Factors:
    • Age
    • Education
    • Work Experience
    • Language Skills
  • Finally, have a qualifying CRS score.

Upon getting an ITA you can submit a complete application for permanent residency in Canada.

The shift to EE PNP draws a temporary relief to applicants

Post-September 2021, IRCC shifted to EE PNP draws. And we can say there are mixed feelings on the same. because to qualify in such a draw an additional requirement apart from the general qualifying criteria is the need for provincial nomination.

Once you get a nomination, you get an extra 600 CRS score. As a result, when the EE PNP draw happens you will be able to qualify the same. In addition, the draw cut-off score is made of 2 parts – base score + 600 PNP points. The last EE PNP draw was held on Apr 13, 2022, when IRCC issued 787 ITAs. And the CRS score was set at 782.

The additional qualifying term may seem a bit taxing due to the absence of general draws and the targeted draws. But was in a way a relief to many.

However, for Canada, it resulted in a huge application backlog. As a result, the country today faces a huge shortage of skilled workers. Also, the number of vacant positions in Canada is at an all-time high of 874,700, read more here.

In addition, there are talks of IRCC considering the in-demand positions while issuing ITAs. So, rather than just focusing on the CRS cut-off, IRCC will also consider the in-demand occupation of the applicant.
