Prince Edward Island PNP

Prince Edward Island (PEI) is one of the three maritime provinces of Canada. Being the smallest province in Canada in land and population, it is also referred to as ‘the Island’ by its people. PEI is densely populated and covers about 2,170 sq miles in size. The island bears its name from Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, and one of the son’s of King George III of Great Britain. PEI has 3 counties Prince, Queens and Kings.

The Island’s expanse runs along the dunes blocking the bays in the north and scenic natural harbours in the south and east, to the stretch of 1,100 km shoreline with its highs and lows of Redstone cliffs. Such pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands have rightfully nicknamed the island as the ‘Garden of the Gulf’. Besides, the world’s largest Confederate Bridge (8 miles long) not only adds to the magnificent beauty of the island but also connects to the neighbouring province of New Brunswick.

Approximately, 154,750 people are residents of PEI with Charlottetown being its capital and the largest city in the province. PEI has a diverse economy with farming being one of the key sectors of the economy. Other sectors include fisheries, bio-space, tourism, IT, aerospace and renewable energy.

As per Nov 7, 2019, Canada Statistics revised provincial GDP by industry data, valued PEI’s GDP at $5,789 (4.4% in 2018).
