Because Canada checks your employability as per these NOC codes. A NOC code is a 4-digit number that shows the job duties, educational requirements, and other info for your profession.
You can apply to the following Canada immigration programs for Canada PR as a nurse:
Express Entry (EE) System
The Express Entry (EE) System is popular all over the world. This is because it is the faster way of getting a Canada PR visa. Besides, the system handles applications from 3 EE sub-streams such as:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
So, as a nurse, you can apply to the FSW category. If you meet the terms such as:
- Have a minimum of 67 out 100. As per the 6 selection factors to be eligible to apply to the FSWP.
- Have a minimum of 1 year of work experience.
- Also, have a language skill level of CLB 7 or more.
- Your education must be in the field of nursing.
- Have educational credentials to prove the same.
When you qualify to apply, you can launch your profile in the EE System. Your profile will then enter the EE pool, where it will get a CRS rank. IRCC holds periodic draws and invites applicants who match or exceed the CRS cut-off.
After getting an Invitation to Apply for a Canada PR, you need to submit a complete PR visa application for Canada. IRCC will then process your application and give you a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).
However, Canada is resuming the FSW, and CEC draws in July 2022. Currently, IRCC is holding EE PNP draws.
EE PNP pathway gaining popularity in 2022
Since Sep 15, 2022, Canada is only holding the Express Entry PNP draws. This is because the following draws are currently on hold:
- CEC draws are on pause since Aug 19, 2021.
- FSW draws on a pause since Dec 23, 2020.
But all this is about to change. As Canada is all set to resume the draws on pause in July. However, in the meantime, you can make the most of the EE PNP pathway. To qualify for Canada pr under the same you must meet terms such as:
- Launch your EE profile through 1 of the EE sub-streams.
- Meet Human Capital Factors such as:
- Age
- Education
- Work Experience
- Language Skills
- Besides, get a provincial nomination certificate.
- Finally, match or exceed the EE PNP draw CRS cut-off.
To understand more, this pathway selects applicants who have an active EE profile. And have a nomination from a Canadian province. Even the cut-off score is a combination of the base cut off + 600 CRS points (nomination).
Looking at the past trends, this pathway has become majorly popular. Since the pausing of CEC and FSW draws, Canada has issued a total of 13,729 ITAs under EE PNP draws.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) – Express Entry and Non-Express Entry streams
While applying to the PNP program, you can choose to go through the EE PNP pathway or can apply directly to a province/territory through the non-EE stream.
You can apply to the EE PNP pathway, by showing interest to apply in a province online via the EE System. The province/territory as per your skillset and the demand of your occupation will give an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a PNP draw.
Besides, once you get a nomination against your EE profile you will get an extra 600 CRS score. As a result, your scope of getting an ITA for Canadian permanent residency goes up.
Whereas PNPs also have a non-express entry sub-stream just for the nursing sector. So, you can choose to apply to these sub-streams and get a nomination.
The following is the list of sub-streams you can apply to:
- OINP – Human Capital Priorities stream (EE linked) invites nurses in draws.
- BC PNP selects nurses through Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC Category.
- SINP has a separate International Health Worker EOI Pool to select nurses.
