Immigration update: New task force shares updates on two million Canada visa application backlog

Justin Trudeau the prime minister of Canada in June 2022 created a new task force. This task force is figuring out and addressing all issues related to visa application processing delays. Because the application backlog has been up to 2.5 million.

And even the minister is unhappy with the same. Thus, he created a new task force to come up with steps to fast-track application and passport processing requests. And improve IRCC and VAC services.

Before the pandemic, standard processing times were followed. But with covid, the flow of work halted. And this is the reason for application backlog and processing delays. But now Canada has introduced and is introducing new measures to return to original processing timelines.

New task force shares updates on two million Canada visa application backlog such as:

  • Revamping of the immigration system to infuse state-of-the-art technology.
    • Because this will give faster and quicker access to both applicants and IRCC.
    • As a result, application requests will now be processing faster.
  • The hiring of more staff members to meet the large delays. As a result, the processing timelines will be back to the past period.
  • The new task force is identifying, allocating a large group of ministers, and working towards addressing service gaps and the scope of improvement.
  • Also, meeting the issues with Service Canada (SC). Such as issues with the processing of passport requests.
    • So, the task force has made new 4 passport pick-up and application centres.
    • But the team is also proposing creating 20 new such centres.
    • This will help people to avoid long queues and uncertain processing timelines.
    • Allocating 85 million (Budget 2021) for immigration issues. Canada hired 500 new passport offices and 319 Citizen Service Officers.
