Irregular migration reaches lowest number in past year
July 13, 2018 – Ottawa, ON –
In June 2018, there has been 1,263 irregular border crossers, who entered Canada to claim asylum. This is the lowest recorded border crossing since June 2017. There has been a significant decrease ever since then.
This trend can be further broken down. There were on average of 83 asylum claims per day in April 2018. Further down to 57 per day in May. In June, there were 39 asylum claims per day.
Canada is ensuring that everyone is aware that a rigorous system is in place and claiming asylum is not a free ticket to get entry into Canada. Canada also provides relevant information time to time regarding the regular immigration streams available to those who are interested to come to Canada for economic purposes
