International Students Canada

Canada ranks no 3 in the world as a top location for 642,000 International students.

Canada ranks no 3 with an international student database of 642,000 in 2019. As per IRCC, the country’s foreign student number increased by 13% (2019) and the govt issued 404,000 study permits. This is yet another double-digit growth for the country.

Canada broke its 2019 immigration target for the 5th time. It saw an inflow of 350,000 immigrants to the country. And there is a three times increase in Canada’s foreign students’ database. Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) research shows that this growth pattern is due to:

  1. A fast-growing economy.
  2. A grade, colleges/universities.
  3. The country is offering degrees which help in getting high salaried jobs.
  4. Job opportunities after completing studies.
  5. A safe and secure environment.
  6. Diverse and beautiful nature, culture, and environment.
  7. The country has a welcoming attitude towards all.
  8. 80 economic-class, quick and easy immigration programs, for permanent residence and study/work permit.
  9. The cost of living in Canada is lower than in other developed countries.

UNESCO research shows that there are over 5 million foreign students in the world. This number was 2 million in the year 2000. Such an increase is due to a rise in the income of middle-class people. And more people choosing quality education, especially overseas. Canada’s colleges/universities are looking forward to this growth as foreign students help in financial growth. Moreover, Canadian born students contribute less due to the low birth rate in the country. Thus, foreign students have become the main source of revenue for Canadian educational institutes.

Even though Canada’s population is increasing by 11 percent, the 18-24 age group is growing by 4%.

Ontario leads the way as the favorite study spot for international students

Ontario is home to more than 50% of foreign students in Canada. The province is on top with, 307,000 students choosing to study here. Following Ontario is British Columbia with 23% (144,675), Quebec 14% (87,280), Manitoba and Nova Scotia with 19,000 students.

Prince Edward Island (PEI) pulling foreign students stronger than ever

In the past 10 years, the province is seeing a strong rise in the intake of foreign students. This current growth rate is five times high as compared to 2010. Other provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba have double-digit growth.

Indian origin students make up to 36% of Canada’s international students

India is one of the main sources of foreign immigrants for Canada. It takes the top seat by adding 25% of people to Canada’s 2019 immigration target. This is also evident from the country giving permanent residence to 85,585 Indians in 2019.

Such an exchange is also a sign of the countries strengthening bond and partnership. Canada and India have a long bi-lateral relation due to its common beliefs of democracy, diversity, and strong relations. The country houses one of the largest south-Asian communities in the world. And has approx. 5.6% of Indians living in Canada.

India and China contribute 56% to the country’s foreign students pool. India tops this with one-third of students being of Indian origin and china comes second with 22% share. Both the countries’ contribution has increased 4 times within 5 years. This is also possible because of the Direct Student Stream.

India, China, Pakistan, Senegal, Philippines, Vietnam, and Morocco applicants get a fast-track processing of study permit under this stream. This stream helps you in getting a study permit within 20 days.

Foreign students one of the prime factors for the growing economy and job creation in Canada.

Annually foreign students add up to $22 billion and help in creating/holding 170,000 jobs. In 2020, the growing number of students will increase Canada’s revenue due to its quick and easy immigration programs. These pathways help in quick and easy Canada immigration and may add extra CRS points. In 2019, the CEC stream for foreign students and TFW’s with Canadian work experience added 34% of foreign immigrants to Canada.

In conclusion, all these signs point towards a strong and positive year for Canada Immigration. New foreign students and current students converting to permanent residents will surely grow Canada’s economy at the global level.
