Two Major Notifications by the Canadian Government regarding Immigration Process (SDS and PGP)

The Canadian Government Introduces Student Direct Stream (SDS)

To enumerate, SDS is a study permit program managed by the Canadian government. It is available to legal residents of India, Philippines or Vietnam who want to study in Canada. SDS applications are being processed by the Centralized Network (CN).

Moreover, The Students must apply at a post-secondary Designated Learning Institution (DLI) at the same time submitting the requires documents as per specification.

The Requirement for SDS Application

In detail, there are certain conditions for applying: 

•  The applications are received online only.
• Applicants must be residing outside Canada at the time of applying.
• Applicants must provide the proof of payment of first year’s tuition.
• A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of at least CAN$10,000.
• English proficiency test results.
• Medical certificates
• Police certificates.

However, it may vary from the applicant’s country of residence as well as his program of study.

To Point Out, The International students might also have to fulfill the eligibility and admissibility requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR).

 Canadian Government Notifies Invitations under PGP

The Canadian Government issued a notification to potential candidates interested in sponsoring their Parents and grandparents, under PGP.

PGP Application process

To explain, PGP allows eligible Canadian and Permanent residents over the age of 18 to sponsor their parents and/or grandparents for Canadian permanent residence.

In fact, The Interested candidates must submit an Interest to Sponsor form during the annual submission period which is usually January.

Furthermore, interested candidates usually have 60 days from the date they receive an invitation to their submit applications along with supporting documentation.

IRCC has set a target of 20,000 complete applications to the PGP for 2019.

IRCC also notified that it will keep the submission and contact information of the candidates who didn’t receive an invitation, even if they have successfully submitted the Interest to Sponsor Form. On the positive side, IRCC’s website says it may further open the Interest to sponsor form again in 2019 “if they require more potential sponsors”.
