Australia Immigration Changes to Investor Retirement visa subclass 405 & 410

The Pathway to permanent residence for retirement visa holders announced by Australia Government as part of the 2018-19 Budget will commence on 17 November 2018. The new legislation will provide a new pathway for subclass 405 Investor Retirement and subclass 410 Retirement visa holders.

Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405)

Features

This temporary visa is for self-funded retirees who have no dependents and want to live in Australia during their retirement years.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be 55 years or older
  • be an existing Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405) holder, or
  • a former Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405) holder who has not held another substantive visa since last entering Australia.
  • have no dependents (other than a partner who is already the holder of or whose last substantive visa was a subclass 405)
  • have an income of AUD65,000 per year (or AUD50,000 if you wish to live in a regional area)
  • have a designated investment of AUD500,000 in Australia (or AUD250,000 if you wish to live in a regional area).

This is the only retirement visa. If you are not eligible for this visa, you might be eligible for a parent visa.

​The Retirement visa (subclass 410) is for retirees and their partners (if any) who want to spend some of their retirement years in Australia.

Requirements

You might be eligible to apply for this visa while you are in Australia or overseas if you are:

  • an existing Retirement visa (subclass 410) holder
  • a former Retirement visa (subclass 410) holder who has not held another substantive visa since last entering Australia
  • the partner of an existing Retirement visa holder or of a former Retirement visa holder who has not held another substantive visa since last entering Australia.
