Agri Food Pilot

The Agri Food Pilot is a program that helps Canada to get foreign skilled workers for the agri-food sector. The program is intended to run until May 2023. And will offer a pathway for permanent residence for applicants for experienced, non-seasonal workers in certain industries and job occupations.

Eligible Industries

The industries that are eligible under the Agri Food Pilot are:

  • Meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116)
  • Greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114)
  • Animal production, excluding aquaculture
    • Cattle ranching and farming (NAICS 1121)
    • Hog and pig farming (NAICS 1122)
    • Poultry and egg production (NAICS 1123)
    • Sheep and goat farming (NAICS 1124)
    • Other animal production (NAICS 1129)

Besides, Canada classifies industries as per the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). And a Canadian employer must the industry code in the job offer of the foreign worker.

Eligible Occupations

As per the National Classification Code (NOC Code) and the occupations that qualify under this program are:

Meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116)

  • Retail butchers – NOC B 6331
  • Industrial butchers – NOC C 9462
  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers – NOC B 8252
  • Food processing labourers – NOC D 9617

Greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114)

  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers – NOC B 8252
  • General farm workers – NOC C 8431
  • Harvesting labourers – NOC D 8611

Animal production, excluding aquaculture (NAICS 1121, 1122, 1123, 1124 and 1129)

  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers – NOC B 8252
  • General farm workers – NOC C 8431

Limitations set as per eligible occupations

There is an annual limit set on the number of applications that Canada will process under the Agri Food Pilot for each of the following occupations:

Moreover, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the 3 years of this program.

How to apply under the Agri Food Pilot to get Canada PR?

To get Canada PR under this pathway an applicant must:

  • Firstly, have qualifying Canadian work experience in 1 or more eligible industries and occupations.
  • Secondly, outside Quebec have a full-time, non-seasonal job offer, from a Canadian employer in 1 of the eligible industries and occupations.
  • Also, meet required language eligibility terms.
  • Further, meet required educational terms.
  • Besides, if applicable, have settlement funds.
  • Finally, if already in Canada, maintain a temporary resident status.

Work Experience

Under the Agri Food Pilot, to apply you must have a qualifying work experience such as:

  • A minimum of 1 year of non-seasonal, full-time work experience in the past 3 years.
    • A minimum of 1560 work hours.
  • Must be in 1 of the eligible job occupations listed under the eligible industries.
  • Besides, is through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
    • A Canadian employer must have submitted a 12 month Labour Market Impact Assessment when hiring a foreign worker.

Open Work Permits

In case a foreign worker presently has an open work permit, however, earlier was holding a work permit through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, their work experience will be eligible for this program.

But any work experience that has been gained on an open work permit is not counted.

Job Offer

Under this program, you must have a valid job offer. Also, your job offer must meet the following terms:

  • Job is under 1 of the eligible industries.
  • It is full time which accounts for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Also, it must be paid, permanent, and non-seasonal.
  • Besides, for unionised positions, the wage must be as per the applicable collective agreement.
  • Whereas, for the non-unionised positions, the wage must be equal to but not more than Job Bank’s set median wage for your occupation. And as per the location of your job.
  • However, if no provincial rate is available for your job, then it must meet the set median wage at the national level.
  • Finally, the job must be in Canada but outside Quebec.

Language Skill Level

Canada requires all applicants to have a job-ready language skill level in English/French. Under this program, you must have a minimum language skill level of CLB or NCLC 4 in all 4 modules. Such as Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Also, at the time of applying, your language test results must be valid. because language test results have a validity of 2 years.

You can submit the following language test results:

  • English – IELTS / CELPIP
  • French – TCF / TEF

Education Level

Under this factor, you must have a:

  • Canadian high school diploma, or
  • An ECA report to show that your educational level matches the Canadian education standards.
    • Besides, an ECA report must have been issued by a designated body.
    • Also, an ECA report is valid for 5 years.

Settlement Funds

To settle in Canada, all applicants must show that they can settle with ease on their own or with their families. As a result, all applicants must have proof of funds. The size of the same depends on the number of family members and includes the:

  • Main applicant
  • Spouse/partner
  • Dependent children
  • Spouse’s dependent children

Besides, you must include your spouse and children even if they are either permanent residents or are not moving to Canada with you.

Apply for Canada PR

To apply for permanent residency in Canada, you must all the terms of the Agri Food Pilot. Also, your job offer and work experience must qualify you to apply for PR in Canada.

Besides, if your application is complete then Canada will process your application. And if you qualify then you will get a PR Visa for Canada.
