  • Firstly, the allocation of study permits is as per:
    • Population size.
    • 10% cap imposed on provinces expecting a rise in 2024.
    • Provinces/territories expecting approval rates below have top-up allocations.
  • Secondly, the allocations are:
    • Ontario – 235,000
      • Ontario 530 Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).
      • 96% of allocations will go to public colleges while remaining to others.
    • Quebec – 117,917.
    • British Columbia – 83,000.
    • Alberta – 40,894.
    • Nova Scotia – 20,378.
    • Manitoba – 18,652.
    • Saskatchewan – 15,054.
    • New Brunswick – 14,651.
    • Newfoundland and Labrador – 3153.
    • Prince Edward Island – 2,312.
    • Yukon – 417.
    • North West Territories / Nunavut – 333.

 

What does the 2024 study permit allocations release by IRCC mean for international students?

  • Secondly, the cap applies to undergraduate degrees and lower credentials.

  • Also, there are special provisions for Master’s and PhD candidates:
    • The student cap does not apply to them.
    • No restriction for sponsoring a spouse for an SOWP.
    • Post Graduate Worker Permit (PGWP) will be issued for 3 years for Master’s/Ph.D. applicants. But their study program must not be less than 8 months.
